BiographyHistory

Drago Saravanja was born in Lipno, near Ljubuski in Croatia. He fled Yugoslavia at age 19 and lived in a refugee camp in Italy before migrating to Australia. He began writing in Australia and had two poems published in the anthology Hrvatska iseljenicka lirika (Croatian Migrant Lyrics) published in Rome. In 1993, he published a collection of poetry titled Svaka rijeka svome moru tece (Every River Flows to Its Sea) and, in 1994, an epic titled Croatian Freedom. In 1999, he published an oral history of Croatian experiences of the Snow Mountains Scheme. [Source: The Snowy and Croatians, p.195; N.B. Libraries Australia has no record for the 1994 publication.]
