BiographyHistory

Wilfrid Russell Grimwade was a highly successful businessman, and was the son of Frederick Sheppard Grimwade, who owed Felton Grimwade & Co., wholesale druggists established in 1867. Grimwade had graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1901, with a Bachelor of Science. In 1903, after spending time in England, he jouned Felton Grimwade's as a director of the new research laboratory, and in 1907 joined as a partner.

Grimwade married Mabel Louise in 1909, and a year later bought Miegunyah in Orrong Road as a wedding present to her where they lived the duration of their lives, They had no children. When Grimwade died in 1955, his estate was probated at a million pounds, when his wife Mabel died in 1973, she left a further $2 million, and between them they left Miegunyah and a substantial endowment to the University of Melbourne for its general benefit.
