The experience, however, means Ethel feels even more keenly the seeming indifference of a returned soldier who has long been the object of her own affection. Upon returning to the city, Ethel is invited to speak of her experiences at a fund-raising evening for the Bush Nurses, and her touching speech is an enlightening experience for one member of the audience.
