BiographyHistory

Robert M'Cutcheon migrated to Melbourne in 1858 with his family. He spent a year in India working as a printer, then worked as a journalist and printer before buying his brother John's share in the printing firm Mason, Firth and M'Cutcheon in Flinder's Lane West in Melbourne. He was the sole owner of the firm by 1878.

M'Cutcheon's firm expanded, and he became recognised as a leading Victorian printer, for a number of years President of the Victorian Master Printers' Association. He was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly in 1902 and was a minister in the Peacock Government 1915-1916.
