Described in radio programmes as 'an original radio serial of the China Seas,' a review of the 1937 novelised adaptation indicates that 'the mystery pursues its blood-stained and hair-rasing course between shipwrecks, cholera epidemics and revolution' (Sunday Mail 25 July 1937, p.35).
