Notes

  • Note on A Novel without a Name:

Burnage published no few than three distinct works by this title, each individually indexed on AustLit.

    • the first (given the alternative title here of A Novel without a Name I) was originally serialised in 1876. It is set some years before its successor, and sets up the characters and storyline followed in that version.
    • the second (given the alternative title here of A Novel without a Name II and also called A Novel without a Name: Book I) was serialised from 1877 to 1878, and then published in book form.
    • the third (given the alternative title here of A Novel without a Name III and also called A Novel without a Name: Book II) began serialisation in February 1878. It ended prematurely in March 1878, though Burnage did provide a precis of the remaining plot in the final instalment.
