'The story tells how a man, on being apprehended by the police for murder, smuggles himself on board a boat, and is not located until the vessel reaches a distant port. He is about to be placed under arrest, when he dives overboard into a sea infested by sharks. Notes
-
Contemporary newspapers drew a parallel between the film and a crime some months earlier, 'when a man named Morrison murdered the dupe whom he was endeavoring to swindle at cards', escaped via steam liner, leapt overboard into shark-infested water when he was about to be arrested, and was subsequently found not to have committed the crime ('Startling News - A Sensational Murder', The Mirror, 12 January 1918, p.13).
