The Freeman's Journal reports on the fire that destroyed Her Majesty's Theatre, London, on the night of 6 December 1867. The fire, which began in the theatre, 'burnt like a tar-barrel' and its heat 'worked quickly and surely through into the surrounding buildings'. All wardrobes, props, orchestra, grand pianos and 'a musical library of incalculable value' were destroyed. Total losses were estimated at £12,000.
