Ian Burn studied at National Gallery School. When he went to Melbourne he got very inspired by the artists that he met. John Brack was one of them. Burn had a huge understanding for colour theory, materials and techniques for painting, and later on Fred Williams became Burn’s mentor. They shared the same deep suspicion for the academic life.
