AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A letter published in the Sydney Gazette as an advertisement. The correspondent asks that the Gazette insert a 'exquisite morceau which appeared by way of leader in the columns of that ably-conducted newspaper, The Commercial Journal of Saturday last [7 July 1838, p. 2].' The leader is included and is also published.

Notes

  • Editor's note: (Notwithstanding the cogency of our correspondent's reasoning, we are not yet convinced that we should be discharging the duty we owe to the public as we ought, were we to notice a publication so replete with filth, as The Commercial Journal; but as our correspondent seems anxious that the "literary gem" her refers to should not be lost to the public, we have consented for once (most unwillingly, we must confess,) to accept his offer, and to insert his communication as an advertisement. - Ed. Syd. Gaz.)
  • The original leader (column) in the Commercial Journal and Advertiser is not indexed in AustLit.
