A report on a lecture delivered by the Rev'd T. S. Forsaith to the Surry Hills Literary Institute. Forsaith used the nursery rhyme 'Jack Sprat' to illustrate his 'exposure of the fallacy of recent sceptical criticism'.

The 'Flaneur' offers comments on three disparate subjects: colonial governments (particularly in India); the Irish in the colony of New South Wales; and the social scandals of Paris.

The 'Flaneur' also writes: 'It is said that a satirical journal is to be started shortly in support of Ministerial interests. It is to be called The Mongoose, and is intended to act as a counterpoise to The Laughing Jackass. The contest between the two will be watched with some interest.' [There is no evidence that a journal titled 'The Mongoose' was ever published.]
