The 4 May 1868 issue of The Evening Star was published in an edition of 100 copies on the first hundred sheets of a brown wrapping paper produced by Samuel Ramsden's Paper Mill (Yarra Bank, opposite Flinders Street Railway Station, Melbourne) and with colonial made ink from the Violet Printing Ink Mills of F.T. Wimble & Co (104 Collins Street, Melbourne). This was the 'first issue of an Australian newspaper printed on Australian made paper with Australian made ink.'
