Notes

  • This poem appeared in the Perth Sunday Times just two days before Britain declared war on Germany in 1914. In contrast to many of 'Dryblower's' strongly patriotic wartime poems which he wrote in the ensuing years, here he reflects on the horror and catastrophic consequences of war.
