Nineteenth-Century Travel Writing
Frederick Sinnett (1830-1866) was a journalist and literary critic. He emigrated to Australia for medical reasons in 1849, settling in South Australia. In An Account of the Colony of South Australia, Sinnett used the lenses of geography, politics and history to describe the colony. Although it may have been of use to travellers, or encouraged travel, it was not strictly travel writing, and was likely compiled for the 1862 International Exhibition in London. Sinnett's work contained a very brief chapter on emigration and wages.
