'In the excavations of a Bronze Age town overlooking the Aegean Sea, I stood on a patch of soft clay and picked up a smooth, oval river stone. This was the floor of the pottery workshop, said my archeologist guide. That stone was used for smoothing the inside of pots - if you find a stone out of context, it's nearly always a tool.'     'Clearing my old 'things to do/think about' folder, I came across an email from Jo Goodman who sadly passed away some years ago. It was brief: Here's an anecdote for you: bloke in overalls and work boots, books under arm, seen whizzing up the steps to Eltham Library. Gets to 'self-opening doors', stops and calls out, 'OPEN SESAME' - and it worked! They opened!'
