'I can't remember exactly when I first read work by Phillip Mann. My first contact with work by Phillip Mann was via The Eye of the Queen: I read this unique novel in the treasured 1988 Grafton edition that I retain to this day. (The cover is reproduced on page 27.) After that it was a scramble to get my hands on other work. I was lucky in that regard because I was at that time the main sf/fantasy book-reviewer for the Sydney Morning Herald, and many of the books came to me automatically ... and in beautiful Gollancz hardcover editions.  (Van Ikin, Editorial introduction)
