Literature of Tasmania

  • About

Literature of Tasmania provides bibliographical information about all aspects of writing in and about Tasmania and also Van Diemen's Land, as Tasmania was formerly called.

Established by Professor Philip Mead, it contains information about authors who were either born in Tasmania, or who have visited or written about what is one of the most distinctive regions of Australia.

Literature of Tasmania includes information about newspapers and journals from the early colonial period (1803-1850). Continuing Aboriginal writing in Tasmania and popular fiction set in Tasmania are covered, as is the significance and uniqueness of Tasmania as a region in the literary imagination.

Other aspects of literary production in Tasmania are also included.

Literature of Tasmania is accompanied by the illustrated monograph An Introduction to Tasmania in the Literary Imagination, by Professor Philip Mead.
