BiographyHistory

Film and television director, producer, screenwriter.

With over 46 years experience in the Australian film industry, more than thirty of those years spent as a freelancer, Donald Crombie is regarded as one of the country's leading filmmakers. As a director his range of productions has involved feature films, telemovies, mini-series, drama series, documentaries, and commercials. He has also written numerous screenplays, assessed other people's scripts and occasionally mentored and taught.

Among Donald Crombie's best known feature films (as a director) are Caddie, The Irishman, (which he also wrote), The Killing of Angel Street, Kitty and the Bagman, and Robbery Under Arms. His television credits as director include Cyclone Tracy, The Heroes, The River Kings, Heroes II: The Return, Time Trax and McLeod's Daughters.

In addition to his career as a filmmaker Crombie has been a Board member of the Australian Writers' Guild (AWG), the Australian Screen Directors Authorship Collecting Society (ASDACS) and the Australian Screen Directors Association (ASDA). He was also President of the latter organisation for five years.
