History
This award was sponsored by Lady Manifold of Camperdown in Victoria. At the time, it was the biggest award ever made in Australia for a play. Part of the royalties from the winning play was given to the Victorian National Gallery and Cultural Centre Appeal. The award was worth £1000 and the play had to have an Australian theme.
