Notes

  • Here Lawson's subject is a speech made by Queensland M.L.C. Frederick Thomas Brentnall during the Vote of Thanks Debate, which took place in the Queensland Legislative Council in July 1891, and which Lawson evidently read of in Hansard. The Vote of Thanks was made to the various military and law enforcement authorities who had acted to suppress the civil disturbances that occurred in western Queensland during the 1891 shearers' strike.
