Notes

  • English translation of the title: Portait of a Woman Poet
  • English translation of first line: Your head droops more
  • The poem is accompanied by a photograph of a woman, captioned 'Basia Sadowska, Hybrydy 1961'. Barbara Sadowska (1940-1986) was a Polish poet and anti-Communist activist. 'Hybrydy' is the name of a Warsaw university club frequented by poets and artists from the late 1950s (see also Rydzyńska's poem 'Hybrydy Dancing' in this volume Odpycham kosmos).
