Notes

  • English translation of the title: In the Bony One's Presence
  • English translation of first line: when in plain sight of us
  • The Polish word 'kostucha' means '(female) bony one' and is a folk term for death. Like the grim reaper, 'kostucha' is imagined as a hooded skeleton with a scythe, but unlike him she is a woman. In Polish the word for death, 'śmierć', is a feminine noun.
