Notes

    • Includes author's note: 'This is a definitive selection from verse written in the course of about twenty years, and published in a limited way in eight small books, now out of print. The opening section consists of poems taken from the earlier of these publications. The set of six sonnets is derived from a lengthy sequence belonging to the same period. Then come later series placed in the order in which they were formerly issued, but with some interchanges, for poems circumstantially connected are now grouped together, whether or not they were previously published in different books. A few poems not collected before are added. In these circumstances, it seemed better to give the groups new headings than use the old titles. F.T.M.'
    • The book is in six sections: Gradual Noonday pp.1 - 29; Sonnets of the Plains pp.31 - 38; Gardenwise pp.39 - 53; Lovers Gone pp.55 - 68; Northern Tides pp.69 - 104; Vogues pp.105 - 115.
