AbstractHistoryArchive Description

In 1842 the Colonial Observer published a leader 'The Late Executions for Piracy' in its 30 November issue and consequently was charged with publishing a libel against the administration of justice in the colony. This column defends its publishing of the article.

The publication and consequent court cases in January and April 1843 were reported in the newspapers of the day in articles and letters. Not all columns and correspondence are indexed separately in AustLit.
