When the Americans first land on Mars they discover what they believe to be Martians only to find out that they are the offspring of two Russian cosmonauts. Survivors (briefly) of an unpublicised Russian expedition to the red planet, they were standed there when the government crumbled shortly after the Mars expedition failed to return.
