  • Author's note: Grigori Yakovlevich Perelman is a Russian mathematician who resolved the Poincaré conjecture, first proposed by French mathematician Henri Poincaré in 1904. In 2010, Perelman turned down the $1 million Clay Millennium Prize. He currently lives in St Petersburg and has reportedly ceased working in mathematics. He is an accomplished violinist and table tennis player.
