AbstractHistoryArchive Description

In 1936 the Australian Broadcasting Company (ABC) invited young writers and composers to apply for chance to collaborate on the writing of radio drama which the network would then produce for broadcast. In early June it was announced that the three men chosen, interior decorator S. D. Douglas (writer) and teachers Robert Leonard (lyricist) and Darrell Bruce (composer), had completed in their spare time a musical comedy called Comes the Spring (Barrier Miner 8 June 1936, 4). Having accepted it the ABC put the work into production and broadcast it live to air on 8 June through one of its Sydney stations, 2FC. It was also relayed to other ABC stations around the country.
