Nobody is sure of his ancestry; his fossilised bones have been found along with those of the diprotodon and the nototherium, and he undoubtedly arrived in Australia long before the Aboriginal man. He is the only indigenous land mammal of the carnivore found in the fauna of Australia, the oldest continent in the world...

    The squatters imported staghounds from Scotland. These dogs were very fast and could run a dingo down and kill him in no time. Unfortunately, some of these dogs 'went bush' and crossed with the dingoes. They were fully grown and causing the squatters considerable loss.
