Notes

  • Only eleven of the thirteen episodes in series one were based explicitly on individual Kerry Greenwood novels. The other two episodes, 'Death by Miss Adventure' and 'King Memses's Curse', are not based on specific novels.
  • Although the first novel in the series, Cocaine Blues, was marketed as Death by Misadventure in the US, this has no connection to the episode 'Death by Miss Adventure'.
  • Only four of the thirteen episodes in series two were based explicitly on individual Kerry Greenwood works (episodes three and twelve on novels, and episodes six and eight on short stories), and all of the adaptations are extremely free. The other nine episodes are original stories.
  • In 2017, a Chinese re-make was announced. Shanghai-based production company Shanghai 99 Visual Company took out an option to make up to 52 one-hour episodes, tailored to a local audience. (Source: https://www.if.com.au/chinese-remake-miss-fishers-murder-mysteries/)

'This article explores the concept of value in relation to the Australian television crime drama series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Drawing on a range of approaches to the economic valuation of culture, it argues for a nuanced approach to capturing the total cultural and economic value of a television crime drama series. While this may include the quantifiable, direct monetary benefits to be derived at all stages of development, production, distribution and consumption, the case is made for consideration of the unquantifiable, indirect non-monetary benefits that may also accrue to creators, to audiences and to society in general, as are clearly evident in the case of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.'
