'Michael Gow's "Faustus" is based on the two great dramatic versions, Marlowe's Dr Faustus and Goethe's Faust as well as myriad plays, novels, operas, movies and artworks - all inspired by the story of Dr Faustus, who sold his soul to the devil in exchange for power, love and riches.' Notes

  • Despite the production note from Live Guide, the Bell Shakespeare 2011 production schedule specifically identifies this as 'Michael Gow’s startling adaptation of Christopher Marlowe’s play'. This is supported by the spelling of the name as 'Mephistophilis', as in the 1616 edition of Marlowe, rather than the more common 'Mephistopheles' (https://www.bellshakespeare.com.au/whats-on/past-productions/faustus/).

  • Queensland Theatre Company and Bell Shakespeare join to present this adaptation of 'Faustus' by Michael Gow at the Powerhouse Theatre, Brisbane Powerhouse, 30 May - 25 June 2011 and regional touring during 2011. Director: Michael Gow.
