Untitled, Andrew Bent , single work correspondence
The Monitor reproduces Andrew Bent's letter to Governor Arthur Phillip requesting a license to publish a newspaper. Bent had previously sold his copyright to the Colonial Times to James Austin, but Austin had been refused a license.

Bent's request was likewise refused - the Monitor also re-produces the response to Bent's letter in which the Colonial Secretary's office conveys the Governor's decision 'to refuse you a License to print or publish any Newspaper in this Colony'.
