Notes

  • Reed (1966) indicates that this poem was published in the Clarence and Richmond Independent on 12 April, 1863. However the newspaper appears to have ceased publication in mid 1862, so it is possible that Reed's source was incorrect. Reed indicates that the MS. version (held at the Mitchell Library, Sydney), is dated 12 April 1863. First publication details remain to be established.
