Immortal Pages of a Miner's Note Book : How Brave Men Died in the North Mt. Lyell Disaster, Bernard Cronin , single work column

This, the sixth article in 'Epics of the Bush', tells how forty two miners died in a fire in a Tasmanian mine. The miners did not notice the smell of the pump house burning until it was too late. The timbers of the shaft had burnt and the smoke prevented them from using the hoisting machinery. Knowing they were doomed, they wrote their final messages to their loved ones.
