AbstractHistoryArchive Description

This, the fourth article in 'Epics of the Bush', credits bush children with stoicism and self-reliance and demonstrates this with two stories of heroic children. Billy Bacon, at ten and a half, put his two younger siblings into a makeshift cart and took them to safety after his mother died during an epileptic fit, whilst Lindsay McGann climbed a two hundred feet long mine shaft to fetch help for two friends who had been injured in a fall down the shaft.
