McMahon discusses miniature villages and other tourist attractions in Tasmania and explores the connection between this phenomenon and references to Tasmania in European literature such as Swift's Gulliver's Travels and Sir Charles Wentworth Dilke's Greater Britain: A Record of Travel in English-Speaking Countries during 1866 and 1867 (1870).
