Little Jim is a collier, the only son of a collier. One day he meets the mine's bookmaker, who takes bets on pit pony races. The bookmaker is also a wizard who casts a spell on Jim, placing him in the wizard's power. Together they become wealthy but quarrel when the wizard demands a half-share of the mine, which Jim now owns.
