Notes

  • Author's note: The Sino-Vietnam War occurred sporadically from 1978 to 1989. Xu Liang’s signature song about self-sacrifice and the romance of shedding blood for one’s motherland was so popular that it was adopted by student demonstrators in Tiananmen Square1989. (Vietnam was the first country to support Chinese government’s crackdown of students.)
