  • Author's/Editor's note at foot of poem (lined by asterisk to the title 'Jones the Immigrant'): Simpkins, 'the Squatter', who left the halls of his father, the rich hatter, of whom- 'Tis said that he abused his spouse / laughed too at all the vows of marriage- / And nothing owed, and cared for no man: / But lived in a most stylish house; / Kept too a very pretty woman: / And drove a very dashing carriage' - will follow this presently.
