Author's note: These poems draw on Scenes of Mount Hua, paintings by Wang Lu, a professional physician who climbed the sacred mountain in 1381. A selection of Wang Lu's paintings was shown at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 2004 in the exhibition Fantastic Mountains : Chinese Landscape Painting from the Shanghai Museum.
