  • Author's note: These poems are taken from three (generally) light-hearted chapbooks written after successive trips to Europe in '03, '05 and '07. In Italy, I always sensed Bernard, il professore, in the background somewhere - even when my partner, Alison, and I couldn't quite fit in the long trip South to Lecce. His indefatigable cheeriness and enthusiasm for almost everything Australian and Italian was never far away, even when he was not physically present. Italy will not be the same without him but at least he taught us all how to enjoy it.
