AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A hostile landlady of a country pub resents her customers ringing the bell for service, and the locals like to exploit this for entertainment. A hapless customer, however, wonders why he received a blow to the head from the landlady when he stood innocently at the bar.

Notes

  • There is an inconsistency in the dates: Edwards cites the story as being recorded in 1966, although the speaker states he 'heard this yarn in 1969'.
