Notes

  • Editor's note: 'On reading Mr. Beresford's speech at the public meeting, as published in the North Australian, June 15th, and the same gentleman's letter in that journal, it is most noticeable that he considers the Doctors did their duty (they were right). The Resident did his duty (he was right). The Minister for the Territory did his duty (he was right). And the Colonial Surgeon did his duty (so he was right), and this general appreciation that "all were right as right can be" suggests a few lines after the well-known song from Mikado.'

Affiliation Notes

  • Associated with the AustLit subset Australian Literary Responses to 'Asia' as the work has minor references to Chinese people in the Northern Territory.
