Lyn Jacobs reviews the 2008 edition of Jose's novel Avenue of Eternal Peace, first published in 1989. The new edition includes a postscript in which the narrator 'delivers an address to Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, 2008', allowing for re-contextualisation in regards to the situation in China subsequent to the first publication.
