In making this film, Producer Rod Freedman was motivated to engage Indigenous writers and directors to begin the sharing of stories that would demonstrate the inner strength of Indigenous people. Showing that the ordinary person is capable of accomplishing great things despite having the odds stacked against them was an inspiration. Uncle Kiddo's story is about a man living a simple life, yet he has had a significant impact on a whole generation of younger musicians. People like the Pigram Brothers, Alan and Stephen, who are now famous in Broome and are also in the film.
