The Making of the Australian Legend : Vance Palmer in Queensland 1885 to 1910, Deborah Jordan , single work criticism
This article re-visits Vance Palmer's early Queensland background, in particular his sojourn in outback Queensland on Abbieglassie station, and suggests some of the implications of this for his writing. 'While the importance of Palmer's experience at Abbieglassie specifically can be seen as a strong influence on some important fictional and non fictional writings, the influence of his Queensland background relates to the wider questions about the myth or reality (or creative truth) of the Australian bush legend, and the roles of the metropolitan centre and the periphery' (212).
