Notes

  • Editor's note:

The following poems are from 'Finding a Place', the second volume of the Medusa trilogy. The first volume, Holiday Coast Medusa, was published by Five Islands Press in 2001. Both books include illustrations (prints, drawings and papercuts) by Rebecca Edwards.

At the beginning of the sequence Steph, the main character and a modern-day incarnation of Medusa, tries to cut her throat in the home of Thene, a Brisbane artist. As in Greek tragedies, the chorus is used to elaborate on the action and fill in the audience on its wider social and historical implications.

  • Work-in-progress.
  • Extract from novel in verse form.
