AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A six-episode awareness series examining aspects of Australian Aboriginal heritage and culture. It also looks at such issues as Aboriginal resistance against white invaders.

  • The National Library of Australia's record for episode three, 'Warriors', indicates that some of the dramatic reconstructions were based on Eric Willmot's then-unpublished novel Pemulwuy.

This documentary looks at the subject of Aboriginal resistance to the white invasion, focusing on such people as Pemulwuy, Yagan, Bennelong, the Eora people, and the Kalkadoon people. The theme of resistance is important because most Australians do not think that there was organised Aboriginal resistance to colonisation. The program also includes interviews with descendants who reminisce on the continuity of the Aboriginal warrior tradition.
