Notes

  • Author's note: The French artist, Pierre Bonnard, had a relationship with Marthe de Melingy from 1893 until her death in 1945 (he married her in 1926). Throughout that time he consistently painted her (in 384 paintings) as she appeared when they first met, when she was in her early twenties.
