When Dickie, aged six years, blows up the 'Ladies' Aid cake' on the Fourth of July he is severely admonished by his four aunts. The orphaned boy pines for his native America and decides to run away. However, his plan is thwarted aboard ship by his aunts, who are upset because he left them. He decides to atone for his callous behaviour and buys them a Valentine's card each.
