  • Author's note : 'It has been pointed out by writers on economics that America, Argentina, and France have been hoarding up gold without permitting it to serve any monetary purpose or support any structure of currency, with the result that this locking up or "sterilisation" of gold has caused a world-wide drop in the value of primary products.'
